Man Bowler
what sort of uniform, did your school make you wear, i am talking about during the 50/60 era?
i used to hate the hat it looked like a mans bowler, and a beret in summer, the gym slips were awful, and those navy blue knickers really itched, so lad and lassies what did you wear and which particular bits did you really hate.
could you define your country when answering its interesting that american schools did not seem make you wear a uniform, or so it seems from the answers, i swopped schools when i was 13 and my parents had to buy me a whole new set.
i remember the kneeling down bit to make sure your skirt was the regulation length ta for reminding me. i think it would be better if uniforms still existed as one person said they levelled the playing field.
I'm English and went to a girls' grammar school. We wore grey and red. In the first couple of years, it was a grey gymslip and grey shirt with a red and white tie and a red purse belt. We wore a grey blazer and a red and white check gingham dress in the summer and had to suffer our red beret throughout the year, even in a heatwave. We also had grey gaberdine macs in the winter. Looking back though, I feel very proud of our public image. There was no adapting the uniform in my day, even our shoes had to be black or brown.
