A Beautiful Canadian Hideaway
My Grandfather recently told me about his holidays in Canada and about a house that he used to own there . He told me the tale of how he came to own it and then he began describing the place to me. The way he described it sounded out of this world and I thought I had to share it.
It was a cabin that was positioned on the banks of Primrose Lake in Alberta. It had a giant open fireplace in the living room, 3 bedrooms and a large kitchen and bathroom. The structure was comprised of hardwood and stone and was put together completely by hand.An old photo that he found of the cabin showed just how good it looked.
In the summer time he would go out and fish for a while on the still lake. he told me that i could not know what perfect silence really was until I went there, it was beautiful he said.There is always some noise or other we hear being made a plane, or vehicle, or person for that matter. But not here. Here was silent as can be. He said that he would often fall asleep for a long time in that little boat and drift across the lake to the other side
In the winter when the snow fell he would do some ice-fishing on the same lake and while he was waiting for a fish to bite he would clear the snow from a section of the lake and ice-skate for a couple of hours. Any fish that her caught would be made into a fish pie by my grandmother and they would both eat it in front of the fire in the evening.
It all sounded like it was Heaven on earth to me. And that is why, after hearing my grandfathers story, I am heading out there soon on a canada fly drive holiday searching for a place of my own on that same lake. Unfortunately my grandfather’s old place is not for sale but if I can find anything even close I will be happy.
